Basement gyms in London.

Private gyms below London houses, with spa rooms beside them. Built by one team.

A gym is height, a quiet floor and air.

A basement gym is a private gym below the house, often with spa rooms. We are NU Projects, design and build in Fulham SW6 since 2010. A basement runs £450 to £780 a sq ft, construction only. Call 020 7731 6841, and a budget estimate typically follows within seven days.

A home gym asks three things of a basement. Height, a floor that takes impact, and air.

Height comes first. Overhead lifts and a rack need more than a standard ceiling. We set it on the drawings.

Weights and treadmills send sound into the house. The floor is isolated so the rest of the house stays quiet.

A gym needs fresh air and cooling, without daylight to help. We design the ventilation with the room.

Many owners add a steam room, a sauna or a treatment room beside it. Each needs its own drainage and air.

One team designs, prices and builds it. Joinery for storage and mirrors comes from Cochrane Bespoke, where specified.

What the work includes

  • Ceiling height set for overhead movement
  • An isolated floor for weights and impact
  • Fresh air and cooling designed in
  • Mirrors, lighting and storage joinery
  • Steam room, sauna and treatment room beside it
  • Sound kept from the house above

The floor is isolated first. The house above never hears it.

    One contract

Ask whether design, structure and fit-out sit with one team.

How high should a basement gym ceiling be?

High enough for overhead lifts and your equipment.

We set it on the drawings, before the dig is fixed.

Will a basement gym be noisy in the house above?

Not if the floor is isolated and the ceiling treated.

We design both from the start.

Can a basement gym have a sauna or steam room?

Yes. Each needs its own drainage, air and waterproofing.

We plan them beside the gym, not after it.

How is a windowless gym kept fresh?

Mechanical ventilation brings in fresh air and takes stale air out.

Cooling is designed with it for hard sessions.
