Notting Hill is tall painted stucco terraces and paired villas. Most date from the nineteenth century. Most run four floors over a lower ground. Many back onto large communal gardens.

The terraces were built as groups, and the borough judges change against the group. A design here reads the neighbours first. Many houses are flats now, so a scheme can stop at one floor.

What the borough asks in Notting Hill.

Council: Kensington and Chelsea for most of it. The eastern edge falls in Westminster.
Conservation areas: Ladbroke, Pembridge and Norland among them, covering most of Notting Hill.
