A Marylebone interior is usually one floor of a Georgian building, with shops below. Mews houses tucked behind the main streets come up less often.
Our Marylebone apartment is Grade II listed. Its drawing room has ornate plasterwork, a marble chimneypiece and tall sash windows. All of it stayed.
The kitchen went into a panelled period room. A marble waterfall island sits at its centre, under the ornate ceiling. Old and new read as one room.
Westminster’s Policy 44 asks work to a listed building to keep its special interest. So we survey first, then design around what matters.
Bedrooms can take stronger colour. One of ours is painted dark, around a pale timber four poster. A red lamp is the only bright note.
