Blue plaques have become an integral part of London’s heritage, a tangible connection to the past that transcends the confines of time. Each plaque tells a story, offering a glimpse into the lives of remarkable individuals who have left their mark on society. From writers to scientists, artists to politicians, these plaques celebrate the diverse tapestry of human achievement.
NU Projects is carrying out a set of upgrades to a house in Chelsea that carries a blue plaque. As we embark on this project, we do so with a deep sense of responsibility to preserve the historical significance and architectural beauty that defines this house.
The scope of the project
The work is modest against the weight of history the house carries, and it still has to be right. Each element upgrades the way the house works without changing what it is.
New light fittings. Fittings chosen to sit with the character of the house, giving light without changing the ambience of the rooms.
New security system. Integrated so it protects the house without showing on it.
New audio system. Triad speakers installed so the house gains the system and loses none of its detail.
New French door and plantation shutters. Both improve the look of the room, and both improve privacy and heat loss.
A new terrace. A tiled surface turns an underused corner outside into somewhere to sit.
A barbecue area. Part of the same outdoor work, so the terrace can be used to cook on as well as sit on.
How the work is approached
On a house like this, every decision is made against what is already there. Each fixing, each cable run and each chosen element has to be reversible or sympathetic. We will post updates as the work progresses.
