NU Projects is a design and build company in Fulham SW6, founded in 2010. We handle bespoke joinery, made by Cochrane Bespoke in Kensington W8, under one contract. The calculator gives your own range in a minute, by scope and finish. Call 020 7731 6841, and a budget estimate typically follows within seven days.

Many Kensington houses were built for one family, then divided into flats. Rooms were cut in two and doorways moved.

Joinery often has to make sense of the result. A wardrobe wall can hide a clipped cornice. A run of cupboards can square up an odd partition.

A lower ground floor is common here. Kitchens and boot rooms sit below the pavement, with less daylight. We draw pale, lit cabinetry to suit.

In W8 we replaced an old block of flats with two new houses. Cochrane Bespoke made their joinery, including walnut on the lower leisure floor.

Every piece is made at Cochrane’s workshop on Fulham High Street, close by.

Before the first cut.

Council
Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, which covers all of Kensington.
Listed interiors
Policy CD5. Original staircases, plan form and historic floor levels are part of the listing.
Listed fabric
Shelving screwed into listed panelling may need listed building consent.
Garden sides
Rear elevations over communal gardens can matter as much as the front. New garden doors are judged with that in mind.
Windows in flats
Flats in mansion blocks carry no permitted development rights, so external changes need consent.

Can joinery hide the scars where a Kensington house was split into flats?

Often, yes. Wardrobe walls and cupboard runs can square up awkward partitions.

We survey first, so nothing original is covered by mistake.

What joinery suits a Kensington lower ground floor?

Pieces that bounce light and keep the floor clear.

Painted finishes, lit shelving and tall larders work well below the pavement.

Does joinery in a listed Kensington house need consent?

It can, if it is fixed to historic fabric.

Policy CD5 counts original staircases and plan form in the listing.

We draw fixings that leave those untouched.

Have you made joinery in a Kensington house before?

Yes. Cochrane Bespoke made the joinery in our two new W8 houses.

That includes walnut on the lower leisure floor, beside the steam room.
