No home can promise survival from a nuclear attack. Close to a detonation, or in a mass fire, it may offer little. It can reduce some risks at a distance.
What shapes the work in Belgravia.
Planning shapes a protected room before engineering does. These are the local basement rules, and your house may add more.
- Council
- City of Westminster. Kensington and Chelsea’s CD11 does not apply here.
- Extent
- City Plan Policy 50, adopted January 2026. One storey below the lowest original floor.
- The garden
- No more than half the garden. An undeveloped margin stays around the whole boundary.
- Listed houses
- A basement must not unbalance a listed building’s original order of rooms.
- Neighbourhood plan
- Made March 2024. It favours upward additions and discourages basements in mews.
What Belgravia owners ask.
Can I build a bunker in Belgravia?
Sometimes. It depends on the house and the local basement rules. We start with a private feasibility review.
Would a bunker in Belgravia survive a nuclear attack?
We cannot promise that. We can plan a protected room within a basement, with specialist engineers.
What does it cost?
It is a specialist service, so we cannot give prices at an early stage. We price it once the brief is agreed.
