NU Projects runs an interior design studio that works on Chelsea houses, mansion flats and penthouses. Period stock and contemporary stock both, and mostly whole houses rather than single rooms.
Chelsea is gabled houses and mansion blocks, which means two different problems. In a house the questions are the plan, the stair, and how much daylight reaches the middle. In a mansion flat they are the freeholder, the licence to alter, the acoustic separation and what you can do to services that run through other people’s ceilings.
At the first meeting we want to know how the house needs to work: where you eat, where people arrive, what you own that has to be housed, what you have outgrown. The concept comes out of that rather than out of a mood board.
Our Chelsea work runs from contemporary apartments with long garden views through to family houses with courtyard gardens. Period and listed properties need the restoration and the new work drawn together, because a sensitive restoration and a modern services installation pull against each other unless somebody is holding both.
The scheme itself is layouts, materials, lighting, joinery, fabric and finishes, all drawn and scheduled before the price is fixed. Warm colour, specialist papers, fabric trims and home technology that is easy to live with rather than impressive to demonstrate. Kitchens, wardrobes and fitted furniture are made by Cochrane Bespoke, our joinery partner.
